KISARU - SUPER MUM
25th April 2020
I first saw Kisaru with her Mother - Amani and sister Busaru in June 2017. The sisters spent a few months together once they left Amani.
Kisaru lost her first litter of cubs, probably to hyena or lions. Then last year she gave birth to 6 cubs. 6 little fluff balls, and rather a big job for a new mother.
For the first few months she had the added help of rangers protecting her from lions and hyena.
She moved the cubs on a regular basis to ensure predators could not find the cubs, she currently still has 6 cubs who are approximately 9 months of age. She now needs to hunt every day to keep the family well fed. She prefers to hunt impala and gazelle. From now on she will teach the cubs how to hunt, so once they become independent they can hunt for themselves.
