Small-group wildlife photography trips
Victoria Falls is a dramatic start or finish to the journey, with time to experience one of Africa’s great natural landmarks before heading into the wilderness.
In Hwange National Park, we focus on the park’s famous elephant herds, predators, plains game and excellent dry-season wildlife concentrations.
The open landscapes and waterholes can provide superb photographic opportunities.
Mana Pools offers a very different experience, with wildlife along the Zambezi River, large numbers of elephants, wild dogs and outstanding opportunities for more intimate, ground-level photography.
Each area has its own character, and the trip is designed to allow enough time in each location rather than rushing between sightings.
Is This Safari For You?
These trips are designed for photographers of all experience levels.Non-photographers are equally welcome.
Group sizes are kept small, giving everyone enough space in the vehicle and plenty of time at each sighting.
The focus is on wildlife and photography, without rushing from one sighting to the next.
I am always happy to help with practical photography advice in the field, including composition, light, camera settings and understanding animal behaviour.
In Hwange and Mana Pools, we stay in small safari camps close to the wildlife so we can make the most of the early mornings and late afternoons.
In Mana Pools, we may also have the chance to do some walking and photograph wildlife from ground level.
The aim is simple: good light, enough time with the animals, and a relaxed safari without unnecessary rushing.
Where we stay
In Hwange, we stay at Nehimba Lodge, part of Imvelo Safari Lodges. It is set in a remote area of the park, close to a waterhole that regularly attracts elephants and other wildlife.
In Mana Pools, we stay at Mana River Camp, in a beautiful riverside setting close to the Zambezi and the wildlife-rich floodplains.
Both camps are comfortable without being over the top, with good food, proper beds, en-suite facilities and a relaxed safari atmosphere.
At Victoria Falls, we stay at Bayete Guest Lodge, a comfortable and relaxed lodge in a quiet residential area of Victoria Falls.
It is a good base for visiting the Falls, with comfortable rooms, a swimming pool and an easy, informal atmosphere.
The lodge works well as a first or final stop before continuing to Hwange or Mana Pools.
Vehicles
We use open-sided 4x4 safari vehicles, normally with a maximum of 3–4 guests per vehicle.
This gives everyone enough space for cameras, lenses and a clear view without having to constantly move around.
Your guide and I work together to anticipate animal behaviour and position the vehicle carefully for the best photographic opportunities.
We do not rush from sighting to sighting. If something interesting is happening, we stay and give it time.
